Before a single fabric is cut or a stitch is sewn, every AKIA design starts with the sisterhood. We begin by listening. The polls you answer on IG and the suggestions you send us. The ideas you share don’t sit in a folder somewhere, they spark the early stages of every piece we create.
Once we gather your preferences, we dive into researching the global fashion landscape of modest wear trends, upcoming silhouettes, fabric innovations and what we believe will feel both timeless and modern for our sisters.
Then comes one of our favourite stages - the sketching process.
Here, you’ll find us on Procreate and surrounded by our art supplies sketching, refining, and dreaming up silhouettes that feel both elegant and effortless.
When the sketches are complete, we send them off to our incredible craftsmen in the UAE. This is where the real magic begins.
Our team studies the designs and we both determine which fabrics will drape best, which materials will elevate the look and how the construction should be refined for modesty, comfort and movement. They source accessories, experiment with techniques and bring the first version of the design to life.
And then… bippidy boppidy bop… a sample arrives. But this is far from the final product.
Every sample goes through the AKIA test. We trial it. We wear it. We critique it and we question every detail.
From the drape of the sleeve to the flow of the hem, the weight of the fabric, the stitching, the structure - nothing is overlooked. If something doesn’t feel right, we refine. If something could be better, we change it. If something doesn’t feel truly AKIA, we realign.
This is why we focus on slow fashion as some pieces take months to perfect because at AKIA London, we don’t believe in quick design, quick manufacture, quick sell. We believe in creating intentional pieces that last, pieces that are worth your trust and pieces that feel just as beautiful to wear as they look.
We hold ourselves to a standard that aligns with our vision: to create modest wear that feels luxurious, effortless and deeply thoughtful.
